We had a great time playing the Showcase Stage at the San Diego County Fair, June 16, 2011. Lots of people were on hand for our two hour set, including many of our friends from the Kearny Mesa Moose Lodge. The sound system was incredible and the fair people took good care of us. Hope we get to do it again. Check our videos and photos for some of the action.

Our next appearance at Hexagone will be May 17, 6:30 to 8:30 PM, featuring light jazz and standards, including vocals by our lead singer, April. We look forward to seeing you then.

FlipSide once again rocked the Moose this past weekend, playing Friday and Saturday nights. Many thanks to guest bass player Doug for filling in for Jeff. Saturday night was "country western night" and we're not a country western band, but we did wear jeans and cowboy hats and dug out things like "Elvira." Doesn't matter what we play, everyone has a good time.

Wednesday, April 6, 2011 was the debut of our offshoot jazz group, with Neil on keys, Steve on sax, Jeff on bass, and Mike on guitar. We played to a full house at Hexagone (5th and Laurel Streets) from 6 PM to 8 PM. Songs included "Moondance," Autumn Leaves," Freddie Hubbard's "Up Jumped Spring" (a surprise hit), Stanley Turentine's "Sugar," and other favorites. It was a blast for us just to play, but even more fun with many friends, co-workers, family, and neighbors enjoying dinner along with the music. We've been invited back and will return on Tuesday, May 10, from 6:30 to 8:30. Hope to see you there.

FlipSide rocked out at the St. Regis Monarch Resort in Dana Point last Friday to a crowd of about 700. They were appearing at a banquet in the Pacific Ballroom for the annual meeting of the American Glaucoma Society. They debuted some new songs and were joined by guest performers, singer Gayle Howard, MD and harmonica player George Ulrich, MD, both members of the society. Special thanks to the incredible AV crew at the meeting. They made the party into a real rock concert! Wish we could bring you guys to all our gigs.
Some comments we received (via email) from people in attendance:
"Neil, The band (and you) were awesome! Even better than before. Thanks so much." Bob
"Great band, Neil!" Phil
"Thank you and your band, Neil. You all certainly made my special evening that much more fun." Rick
"Neil - You guys were GREAT! I thought I was at a concert of the original artists!" Paul
"Neil, You were fantastic...what a terrific group...To know how much practice time you had makes the music you created even more special. Thanks...."MSB

We are so greatful to our friends who filled in while many of our regular players were out of town celebrating Thanksgiving with family. Alex Gomez and Michael Saulnier on guitars, Greg Miller on drums and Doug Brunell on bass did a great job and rocked the house with April, Brent, Neil and Steve. You may have noticed the addition of a few more blues and funk numbers this weekend. That is because the guys who graciously filled in, form the core of the Alex Gomez Blues Project. Neil is the keyboard player for that band too. If you liked what you heard there is more of that every Monday night at the Stage Bar and Grille on 5th and F streets in the Gaslamp. It is also a jam so come on down and join the fun and remember to say "hi".
Don't forget we will be back at the Moose Lodge in just 2 weeks, on Dec.10 and 11. Also, get your tickets to Rock in the New Year at the Kearny Mesa Moose Lodge. We had a blast last year and the party promises to be one to remember again this year.

It's been a long hiatus, but I'm happy to report that FlipSide is back, better than ever. We have been in rehearsal for the past two months with our outstanding new members: Mike returning on lead guitar and vocals, Charlie on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, David on drums and percussion, and Nick on bass. We've been working on new material spanning classic rock, jazz, and blues. Watch our calendar for upcoming events, and we look forward to seeing our friends at upcoming gigs.
